Hi there! My name is Amy and I want to welcome you to my blog about my dog Princess and my experiences with her as a wheelie dog – a dog in a wheelchair.
I got interested in starting a blog because I remember so vividly when our sweet Papillon, Princess, got struck with IVDD and how my world changed in a moments notice. I remember speaking with the surgeon and hearing all kinds of terminology that was foreign to me. I remember being told that there was a great likelihood of her being paralyzed for the rest of her life, that we would need to express her bladder (what did that mean?) and that we would need to decide if we were prepared to give her the care she would need. My head was spinning…I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that I wanted her to have the surgery but, beyond that, I was clueless!! I sat and googled for hours. I found very, very little information or resources to help me figure it all out back in 2013. The few resources I found, I latched onto and read anything I could find.
I want this blog to be available for everyone that is just beginning this journey with their pets. I am hoping this blog will even help those that are currently on a journey like this. I know that over the years there were many times new questions arose and I had to go searching for answers. Luckily, nowadays, there are more resources than there were in 2013 when Princess got IVDD. But I truly believe that there needs to be more. I want to help anyone who is starting this journey to be able to find answers to the hundreds of questions that pop up along the way.
Thank you for being here with me as I begin this blog! Please leave a comment below if you enjoyed this post or if you have any questions for me.

This will be helpful to many people and pets! I’m glad you’re sharing all of your knowledge!
I remember those exact feelings you expressed when you found out Princess’s diagnosis. All the details can be so overwhelming when you’re suddenly plunged into the world of MRI’s, spinal surgery, expressing urine and unfamiliar terminology. You’re being asked to make expensive life and death decisions for your precious baby and all you want to do is run away and cry. Thank you (especially in this covid time when you have less time to spend face to face with your vet or surgeon) for clarifying what some of the options are, and what caring for your dog will be like going forward. This blog will be so very helpful for pet parents beginning this journey with their sweet dog. I was terrified when I got to the emergency hospital with my dog, Logan 2-1/2 years ago.
Love this I know I am going to cry but I applaud you offering help and a shoulder for others.
